FAQ

All Glassware

Slight variations and small air bubbles are natural occurrences in the forming of glassware – they are not flaws, but rather a natural characteristic of blown glassware. These are not considered defects and we do not issue returns/exchanges/replacements/refunds or issue credit notes for such occurrences.

Dualit toaster:

My toaster is not working:

  • Check the toaster is plugged in.
  • Check if the ‘neon’ is glowing red.

If yes, your elements or ‘selector’ switch may need replacing.
If no, your plug fuse may have blown, or your timer may need replacing.

How to I cure uneven toasting?
Preheat the elements before toasting the bread.
When first using the toaster from cold, we would suggest that you preheat the elements before toasting the bread. To do this, please turn the timer dial to its full extent and drop your bread in when the timer reaches the 2.5 minute mark. This will allow the end castings sufficient time to heat up.

Why is there smoke coming out of the slots?

  • If this is the first time using your toaster, this is normal, your elements are being conditioned.
  • Empty the crumb tray. A buildup of crumbs can burn or cause a fire.
  • Some crumbs or pieces of bread may be stuck in the toaster. Unplug, remove the crumb tray then turn the toaster down over a sink or bin and gently shake the crumbs out or use a soft brush to clean inside your toaster.

My timer is noticeably slow or sticking

  • Unplug and do not use the toaster. Replace the timer immediately. Spare timers are available from Cuisivin and must be fitted by a qualified small appliance repair store.

Why is my toaster wobbly?

Use the adjustable foot under the toaster to compensate for uneven surfaces.

How do I clean my toaster?
With a damp cloth
A stainless steel cleaner can be used on the central cover only. It should not be used on the ends as this would cause discolouration. Instead we recommend that you clean the end castings with a damp cloth and then use a soft dry cloth to polish them afterwards.

Should the elements glow red?
After a number of uses the elements should start to glow red
Dualit’s unique ‘ProHeat’ elements, used on all Vario, Combi and NewGen toasters, only glow red after prolonged and continuous use. If they start to glow red straight after being switched on, there could well be a fault with the elements.

Can I order new elements?

Replacing an element is a simple procedure but should only be done by a qualified small appliance repair store.

Fresh Mill

Why isn’t my Fresh Mill working?
Aromatic herbs must be thoroughly frozen to make them easy to chop with the Fresh Mill Herbs. Some of the juices and aromas they contain do not freeze at temperatures above -18°C. It is therefore important to keep the temperature at -18°C or less, or the herbs will be too limp and tend to block the holes in the grater. If this happens, turn up the refrigeration power of your freezer.

Similarly, if the Fresh Mill Herbs has been left out of the freezer for too long (around 10 min, depending on the temperature in the kitchen), the herbs will have started to defrost and will be harder to chop.

Depending on how damp the herbs are and how tightly they are packed in the mill, they may stick to the sides of the transparent body during the freezing process. Sometimes, they cannot be unstuck simply by pushing the push disc, and the Fresh Mill Herbs turns without dispensing any herbs. You then need to unstick them manually. This problem only occurs if the herbs are too damp and/or too tightly packed.

My Fresh Mill is stuck, what do I do?

One way to unstick them manually is to unfasten the bottom of the Fresh Mill Herbs and then press on the axis from above, to slide the herbs/mechanism group along in relation to the transparent body. Then clip the bottom of the mill back on. The Fresh Mill Herbsis now fully functional.

Another way of unsticking them manually is to slide a semi-rigid tab (supplied in the packaging) between the push disc and the transparent body, to unstick the frozen herbs from the sides of the mill.

How much should I fill?
When assessing how tightly the herbs should be packed in the Fresh Mill Herbs, bear in mind that 20 g of herbs should take up half of the total volume of the mill.

For effective chopping, make sure you fill both of the Fresh Mill Herbs’s cylinders evenly. Otherwise, the push disc will be thrown out of alignment and is more likely to shift away from the screw thread.

When the herbs are too tightly packed in the Fresh Mill Herbs, the grater holes can no longer dispense enough chopped herbs. The herbs build up more and more as you use the mill, eventually blocking it. To avoid losing everything, take the semi-cylinders of frozen herbs out and grind them vertically.

Agate Coasters

Why aren’t my coasters identical?
Each coaster will have variation in size, color, rings and design because they are natural stone. This is not a flaw or defect but the nature of the product and part of their natural beauty.
